This video is a very good (but very time and labor intensive) example of how to make a case-bound hardcover book using PVA glue for binding the pages.
You could follow this same example for creating a paperback as well. Just omit the end papers and the mull and glue the cover directly to the spine using the same PVA glue that was used on the spine.
